Lou Gomez was born in Montevideo, Uruguay. His art education began at the age of six, when he enrolled at the Uruguayan Instituto de Bellas Artes. Upon moving to Buenos Aires, Argentina at the age of twenty-three, he studied Art and Design at the Instituto Argentino de Arte y Diseno. His interest in design led him to develop “Propuesta,” a line of jewelry which he sold in stores throughout Argentina, including his own boutique: Ann Nicole.
In 1994, Lou Gomez relocated to Miami after having travelled extensively throughout South, Central America and the Caribbean. Busy years of seeking to make a living in America drew him away from his artistic goals. Nevertheless, he continued to draw, sketch, and design for his own enrichment and personal development.
However, in 2009, Lou underwent a mental transformation that reinvigorated his artistic passion. Since then, Lou's art has increasingly focused on a vein of multi-media art that includes working with wet tint/ink, and digital photography, which he then translates to working on the “traditional” canvas. Enraptured by the creative freedom this offers, Lou has developed techniques that transform the traditional canvass into multi-dimensional works of art. His unique and original art is abstract and left up to the interpretation of the viewer as to how they want to display it. This promotes an interaction amongst the artist, the art, and the viewer.
